Leawood, Kan.-based Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute, the area's only orthopedic speciality hospital, is marking 25 years of patient care.
The hospital opened for the first time in 2000 and has since served more than 565,000 patients, according to a Jan. 23 news release sent to Becker's.
All institute physicians are providers with the Kansas City Orthopedic Alliance and specialize in musculoskeletal surgery, sports medicine and rehabilitation.
Orthopedic surgeon Charles Rhoades, MD, who saw the need for the institute in 1988, \worked to make it a reality.
In 2018, the facility opened a 22,000-square-foot expansion, nearly doubling its original footprint.
Today the institute affiliates with 34 physicians and surgeons, while its facility features 17 in-patient suites and eight operating rooms.
