Two orthopedic surgeons were sentenced in separate fraud schemes in the last month.
1. New York City pain management surgeon Sady Ribeiro, MD, 72, has been sentenced to three years in prison in connection to a $31 million "trip-and-fall" scheme. He pleaded guilty in September.
2. Lawrence Alexander, MD, was sentenced to two years and nine months in prison for his role in a $31 million Medicare fraud scheme. Dr. Alexander was previously convicted of false statements related to healthcare matters.
