Caira Surgical debuts joint replacement navigation system

Orthopedic

Caira Surgical has debuted its new Caira Total Knee Arthroplasty Radar Navigation System for advanced total joint replacements.

The new system brings computer-assisted joint replacement to surgeons, using radar sensors for accurate tracking among robotic-navigated surgical systems.

The new Caira navigation system also costs 75 percent less than traditional robot-assisted navigational systems, according to a March 8 press release. Typically, navigation systems are priced at $1.2 million, plus $1,000 in added disposables per case.

Caira's radar guidance eliminates line-of-sight issues common with camera-navigation systems, and it allows surgeons to move and reposition navigation during the procedure, according to the release.

Caira plans to submit its total knee arthroplasty system for FDA clearance this year, with hip and spine surgery capabilities expected in coming years.
