Holy Name Medical Center debuts smart knee implant in New Jersey

Orthopedic

Teaneck, N.J.-based Holy Name Medical Center has debuted Persona IQ's smart knee replacement technology, according to a Dec. 22 press release sent to Becker's.

Persona IQ is the first implantable knee replacement device that allows for remote patient monitoring and data collection, and it is the only smart knee implant with De Novo status from the FDA for total knee replacements.

Persona IQ collects data including range of motion, step count and walking speed, and it has a battery that lasts for approximately 20 years. The collected information is moved to a cloud-based, HIPAA-compliant platform where it can be monitored and reviewed by a patient's physician.

"The Persona IQ smart knee will undoubtedly kick off an evolutionary process in

orthopedic innovation," Dennis Pfisterer, DO, an orthopedic administrator at Holy Name, said in the release. "The surgery remains the same, but the information we’ll have access to now will allow us to personalize our patient’s rehabilitation program, tweak medication as necessary and use data to assess how to even better improve mobility and movement."
