Orthopedic surgeon loses election for Florida city commission seat

Orthopedic

David Bellamy, MD, a Florida orthopedic surgeon, who announced that he was running for a seat on the Tallahassee (Fla.) City Commission in October of 2021 against incumbent candidate Jeremy Matlow, lost the election, according to an Aug. 23 report from the Tallahassee Democrat.

Mr. Matlow beat Dr. Bellamy by over 4,000 votes.

Dr. Bellamy called his loss "bittersweet".

"Both of us ran a solid campaign. I hope for the best for him and I hope for the best for the city," Dr. Bellamy told the Democrat. "It’s a bittersweet moment. I would have really liked to serve in this position, but it would have taken a lot of time and I’d rather focus on the benefit of not having won instead of what could have been."
