Adventist Health Hanford (Calif.) has been designated as a Blue Distinction Center+ for hip and knee replacements, the Hanford Sentinel reported Oct. 20.

Centers with this designation — which is bestowed by Blue Cross Blue Shield — have demonstrated expertise in hip and knee replacements, including fewer patient complications and hospital readmissions. On average, the facilities are 20 percent more cost efficient in an episode of care.

"Adventist Health Hanford is honored to be recognized for meeting the robust selection criteria for knee and hip replacements set by the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program," Gurvinder Kaur, MD, chief medical officer for Adventist Health in the Central Valley, said in the report. "We not only care for our Hanford community, but surrounding communities who seek our top-rated joint replacement center for its excellence in positive surgical outcomes."

Adventist Health Hanford is one of more than 500 hospitals and ASCs to have earned the designation. A full list is here.
