OrthoIndy appoints CEO

Practice Management

Indianapolis-based OrthoIndy appointed John Ryan as its new CEO, the company said Oct. 7. Mr. Ryan will take over Jan. 1.

Mr. Ryan will lead OrthoIndy's more than 70 physician-owners at 10 locations in a return to the company's dyadic leadership model with a physician president and a nonphysician CEO.

“I’m excited to join such a respected organization,” Mr. Ryan said in a news release. “In a time when we are seeing so much consolidation in healthcare, I am particularly impressed with OrthoIndy being committed to remain independent."

He comes to OrthoIndy from Indianapolis-based Hall, Render, Killian, Heath & Lyman, where he has been the president and CEO since 2012. Hall Render grew to become the largest healthcare-focused law firm in the country during Mr. Ryan's tenure. Before leading Hall Render, he served as the firm's human resources chairman and hiring partner from 2005-2011.

Mr. Ryan is a member of the bar associations of Michigan, Arizona and Missouri, and of the American Health Law Association. Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb appointed Mr. Ryan to the state's EMS Commission in 2018.

He received both his bachelor's degree in economics and his law degree from Bloomington-based Indiana University in 1995 and 1998, respectively. He was named the 2021 Indianapolis Health Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers in America.
