Practice Management

The American College of Surgeons released new resources and guidance related to elective surgery postponement during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Three things to know:

1. The ACS published surgical triage guidelines for 14 specialty areas, including orthopedics and neurology. The guidelines were developed in consultation with experts.

2. For orthopedic specialists, the ACS provided a table of recommendations on when to reschedule procedures of varying acuity. Neurosurgeons can access a compilation of specialty-specific guidelines.

3. In a previous joint statement, the ACS advised medical centers to establish surgical review committees for clear, transparent and responsive oversight of triage protocols.
