Here are 14 health systems expanding spine and neurosurgery services in 2019.

1. Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare broke ground on the Emory Musculoskeletal Institute in Brookhaven, Ga., Oct. 4. The 180,000-square-foot facility will include spine, orthopedics, physical therapy and imaging in one location.

2. Indianapolis-based Goodman Campbell Brain & Spine and Ascension St. Vincent Health signed a letter of intent to expand their partnership at two hospitals in the city. The organizations are collaborating to develop a new neurological center of excellence at St. Vincent Indianapolis.

3. Medical City Dallas is opening a spine hospital and a heart hospital as part of the Medical City Healthcare system's capital investment of $1.8 billion over four years. The spine hospital will offer treatment for common spine disorders, as well as complex spinal deformities such as scoliosis and spondylolisthesis.

4. Boston-based Brigham Health opened Brigham and Women's Health Care Center in Pembroke, Mass. The 30,000-square-foot facility provides specialty care series including neurosurgery, orthopedics and general surgery.

5. Nashville, Tenn.-based Ascension Saint Thomas will build a $48 million facility, replacing the acute rehab unit at Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville. The new center will expand spine, orthopedic and neuroscience services.

6. Bay City, Mich.-based McLaren Bay Region opened a new medical facility in Midland, Mich. The center features a multispecialty suite providing neurosurgery, spine and orthopedic services.

7. Evanston, Ill.-based NorthShore University HealthSystem opened a spine and orthopedic hospital in Skokie, Ill. The institute provides outpatient and inpatient treatments.

8. Maryville, Ill.-based Anderson Healthcare is expanding with a new hospital in Edwardsville, Ill., providing care for spine and orthopedic conditions. The hospital is anticipated to open in the fall of 2021.

9. Charlotte, N.C.-based Novant Health opened an orthopedics and spine office in Supply, N.C. Jordan Glaser, MD, and Ricardo Valle, MD, provide degenerative spine care and orthopedic spine surgery at the clinic.

10. Morristown, N.J.-based Altair Health, a physician-managed health system focusing on spine care, opened a facility in Morristown and Florham Park, N.J.

11. Boardman, Ohio-based Southwoods Health opened a Pain & Spine Center. Physicians treat an array of spine conditions including neck and back pain, herniated discs, compression fractures, and neuropathy.

12. Baptist Health South Florida in South Miami broke ground on a wellness and medical center featuring a spine clinic in Plantation, Fla.

13. Dayton, Ohio-based Premier Health's Orthopedic Spine Center opened an office in Centerville, Ohio, providing spine services for several conditions, including degenerative disc disease and spinal stenosis.

14. HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast opened an orthopedic and neuroscience center in Pasadena, Texas. The 20-bed, 15,800-square-foot center is intended to serve patients postoperatively.
