Boston Scientific awarded $20M after jury finds Nevro infringed on 2 patents

Spinal Tech

A jury found devicemaker Nevro infringed on two of Boston Scientific's patents related to spinal cord stimulation.

The ruling stems from a 2016 lawsuit related to Boston Scientific's 10kHZ spinal cord stimulation system, according to a Nov. 1 news release from Nevro. The case doesn't have any effect on current or future Nevro products or operations.

Boston Scientific was awarded $20 million by the jury. Nevro's general counsel, Kashif Rashid, said in the news release that the company plans to appeal.

A spokesperson for Boston Scientific said in an email to Becker's that the company is "gratified" by the jury's decision and the move is "the first step in holding Nevro accountable."

"The jury’s decision validating Boston Scientific spinal cord stimulation patents supports our goal of bringing meaningful innovations to patients living with chronic pain conditions."
