35 executive moves at spine, orthopedic device companies

Thirty-five executive moves in the spine and orthopedic device sector have transpired so far in 2020:

Spinal implant developer RTI Surgical on May 26 announced Stuart Simpson joined its board of directors.

Spinal device company Zynfusion appointed Mark Terrill as CEO May 26.

Nexxt Spine onboarded James Abraham as chief operating officer May 12.

Andy Broyles joined ChoiceSpine as the spinal implant manufacturer's first chief financial officer.

Cheryl Blanchard, PhD, became Anika Therapeutics' permanent CEO and president April 26. She had been serving in an interim capacity.

Omar Ishrak on April 26 retired as Medtronic CEO and transitioned to executive chairman, after a nine-year stint as head of the medical device company. Geoff Martha took over as CEO April 27.

John Murphy, PhD, on April 20 was appointed chief technology officer of GTX Medical BV, a device company specializing in neuromodulation therapies for spinal cord injuries.

Biotechnology company CytoDyn appointed Scott Kelly, MD, as CMO and head of business development April 13.

Anne-Francoise Nesmes will become CFO of Smith+Nephew on Aug. 3.

Stimwave Technologies, a device company that develops neurostimulation solutions for chronic pain relief, named Aure Bruneau CEO April 3.

The board of managers at Bioventus unanimously appointed Ken Reali to succeed Tony Bihl as CEO upon Mr. Bihl's April 20 retirement.

NanoFUSE Biologics appointed Jake Lubinski as CEO March 16.

Ken Yamada on March 19 was appointed president and CEO of AxioMed, a spine device and subsidiary of private investment holding company KICVentures.

Implanet appointed Stephan Collardey as country manager of its German subsidiary, Implanet GmbH, to accelerate its commercial and business operations.

Preston Wells, vice president of financial planning and analysis at Stryker, will become vice president of investor relations June 1.

Medtronic tapped Sally Saba, MD, to serve as its inaugural chief inclusion and diversity officer, according to a Feb. 24 announcement.

Regenerative medicine company Vivex Biologics appointed Chad Kolean as CFO Feb. 12.

Sanuwave Health on Feb. 7 appointed Tom Price, MD, to its board of directors. Dr. Price is an orthopedic surgeon who previously served as the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Conformis appointed former Boston Scientific executive Bob Howe as CFO and treasurer on Feb. 5.

Collagen Matrix, an entity acquired by private equity firm Linden Capital Partners in 2019, appointed Shawn McCarthy as CEO Jan. 29.

San Antonio-based NuHope, an outpatient treatment center focused on reducing patient opioid dependency, appointed Jeff Dunkel as CEO Jan. 28.

Stryker named Don Payerle president of joint replacement, effective March 1.

Rob Pace, co-founder and CFO of Osseus Fusion Systems, was appointed CEO Jan. 27.

Stephen Wohlert, PhD, on Jan. 21 was named vice president of manufacturing for Miach Orthopaedics.

Ohad Arazi was named CEO of Zebra Medical Vision, the deep-learning medical imaging analytics company that partnered with DePuy Synthes in December.

Shafique Virani, MD, on Jan. 10 was appointed director of newly established biopharmaceutical company TauC3 Biologics.

Zimmer Biomet created a new role in its executive structure for Keri Mattox, who will serve as senior vice president of investor relations and chief communications officer.

Daniel Lemaitre began his new role as CEO at neurostimulation company BlueWind Medical Jan. 1. 

Joint replacement surgery device company Exactech underwent a number of leadership changes to start the new year. Exactech's current CEO, David Petty, became vice chair of the company's board of directors. Darin Johnson, senior vice president of extremities, succeeded Mr. Petty. Exactech co-founders Bill Petty, MD, and Betty Petty retired from the company.

Matthew Harbaugh became NuVasive's executive vice president and CFO Jan. 2, succeeding Raj Asarpota, who was leaving the company.
