Spine and orthopedic device company SurGenTec received FDA approval for its Alara Neuro Access Needle Kit.

Surgeons can use the Alara system to assist them when cannulating a pedicle. The system makes pedicle screw fixation safer and "has the potential to decrease the risk of nerve injury for the patient," said CEO and founder Travis Greenhalgh.

SurGenTec will have the system on display at the North American Spine Society's Annual Meeting in Chicago, Sept. 25-28.
