VA hospitals, surgeons gain access to bone graft device for spinal fusions

Spinal Tech

The Department of Veteran Affairs made the Kleiner Device Labs KG 1 lumbar spinal bone graft device available to VA and military surgeons through Government Marketing and Procurement, a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned contract management firm.

Three insights:

1. The device was shown to increase the lumbar spinal fusion group's success rate from 75 percent to 92 percent without the use of bone morphogenetic protein in its peer-reviewed clinical testing.

2. KG 1 has more than doubled the inside dimension of traditional funnels, bi-portal ejection zones for better graft fill volume, a removable funnel cup and a wedged tip with a radiographic marker.

3. The device's rectangular shape and size leaves an optimum void upon removal, which helps surgeons introduce a fusion cage.
