Austin, Texas-based Dell Children's Medical Center installed Medtronic's O-arm imaging system to assist in spine surgery, according to KXAN.com.
Here are four things to know:
1. The O-arm is a CT scan that provides spine surgeons with a 3D image of the spine while in the operating room.
2. The hospital completes 50 to 100 spine fusions a year, and the 3D technology can be used in each surgery.
3. Pediatric spine surgeon Brian Kaufman, MD, has operated with the O-arm and said the technology allows him to place more screws in more difficult locations of the spine.
4. Verified by the American College of Surgeons, Dell Children's is a level 1 children's surgery center.
