Using robots in the operating room helps surgeons at Cedar Rapids (Iowa) hospitals and Iowa City-based University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics perform procedures that are faster and minimally invasive, The (Iowa) Gazette reported.

 Here are three insights:

1. The minimally invasive surgeries help patients recover faster.

2. Since 2002, more than 40,000 surgical cases were performed in Iowa by a da Vinci surgical system, John Greenwood, senior clinical sales representative for Intuitive Surgical told The Gazette.

3. “I think with evolution of technology and more hands on clinical experience we will be able to push the envelope for better and safer robotic surgery with uncompromising clinical outcomes,” Evgeny Arshava, MD told The Gazette.
