Saginaw, Mich.-based St. Mary’s of Michigan received a new Mako robot to help with total knee and hip replacement surgery, WSGW reported.

The robot came as part of a $50 million investment across three hospitals by St. Mary’s parent company, Ascension Healthcare. The Mako robot helps make TKR and THR less invasive through using smaller incisions and individualized procedures

“You don’t have to use the jigs that you use in a standard total knee, so you don’t need as much space,” orthopedic surgeon Tarek Taha, MD, told WSGW.
