Hospital for Special Surgery invests in 3-D planning software: 3 things to know

Imaging

New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery purchased Sectra’s 3-D preoperative planning solution to improve patient outcomes.

Here are three things to know:

1. Sectra’s software includes tools to allow surgeons to render CT images into 3-D interactive images. The images can be segmented, manipulated, mirrored, templated and 3-D printed.

2. The new software will integrate with current Sectra solutions at HSS, giving surgeons immediate access to all Sectra tools.

3. HSS surgeons will utilize the tool for advanced 3-D virtual fracture reduction and trauma planning as well as 3-D spine surgery planning.

“Sectra’s innovative 3-D solutions will enable us to make full use of the acquired images, resulting in cutting edge deliver of care to our orthopedic patients,” William Ricci, MD, chief of orthopedic trauma services at HSS said. “This 3-D platform will improve the quality of preoperative planning with potential for

improved surgical outcomes.”
